Let's have Assisi

Basilica of San Francesco d'Assisi
We drove from Venice down to Assisi. A lot of people come here for a pilgrimage, but, we stumbled across it, doing our stabby pointy-finger decision-making process that dictates our next destination. Nevertheless we enjoyed our visit, and we took in some beautiful sites - including the Basilica of Saint Frances of Assisi, a beautiful three-tiered church with a very open and frankincense-infused crypt/chapel/tomb buried with the bones of the man himself.

Storming the large city castle -
unfortunately closed and with more
than a mere wooden gate for protection.
Otherwise we would have
sacked the place Dunstanburgh stylee,yea.

The epic view onto Assisi

Wow, great pics again. When I was looking at the one of Roisin 'storming' the castle I was just thinking of Dunstanburgh............ And then I read your comment! The countryside looks lovely and so interesting.x

Umbria is beautiful and interesting! We think that we won because it was off season, but, get away from Assisi and the summer would have transformed the umbria/tuscony region into an even more beautiful sight.

Had we both have been fully able-bodied then we probably would have been able to get a proper Dunstanburgh-like viewing. Fortunately the view the other way made up for it.
